If I were graduating in December, I’d look for a job or even an internship in a traditional news organization, probably print. No matter how bleak the future may be for the publication, I would want the experience and hopefully the guidance from people who’ve been in the business for a long time.
I’m not sure how long I would be satisfied with a “serf” role, however. Maybe just a few years. I don’t think it would be too long before I would want to strike out on my own in some way, get down with a newer website or just do my own thing and freelance, and be more independent and creative. I’d be looking to have a real chance to be innovative and to be able to use my ideas to help evolve whatever organization I was with, as well as my own career.
